While John McCain co-sponsored a bill (S.190 Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 ) that would have prevented the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac meltdown, Barack Obama and democratic leadership profited directly from the mortgage crisis. They prevented the establishment of regulatory oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that would have required the companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets.

Here are some excellent links to John McCains and Barack Obamas voting records. They are tracked and recorded at VoteSmart.org.

John McCain
Barack Obama

At the RNC, Rudy Giuliani took the liberty to poke some fun at Barack Obama voting ‘present’ while in the Illinois house. He made the point that Mayors and Governors don’t get to vote present, they have to make decisions.

Members of Congress have the equivalent of voting present, they can end up having a ‘No Vote’. For whatever reason, a vote is not recorded. They could have been in a meeting, out of town, or on the campaign trail. There is no way of telling whether they deliberately positioned themselves as a ‘no vote’ on controversial issues. Too bad! McCain and Obama have both had their share of No Votes. Barack does still have the distinction of ‘No Voting’ more than John McCain. Here are the stats.
