Not according to Adam Smith. By pursuing my own self interest (?happiness?), I find the employment (work) that I am most happy performing and as such am able to contribute to society in a fashion that is most productive to society and happiest for me.

As Adam Smith described:

“Every individual is continually exerting himself to find out the most advantageous employment for whatever capital he can command. It is his own advantage, indeed, and not that of society, which he has in view. But the study of his own advantage naturally, or rather necessarily, leads him to prefer employment which is most advantageous to the society . . . . [H]e intends only his own gain, and he is in this, as in many other cases, led by an invisible hand to promote an end which was no part of his intention. Nor is it always the worse for the society that it was no part of it. By pursuing his own interest he frequently promotes that of the society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it.” — Adam Smith, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, bk. If you have been drinking the Kool-Aid then you probably believe that millions of Americans made small donations in a ground swell of support.

The Obama campaign is using credit card companies from out of this country where the laws against fraud, accountability, and tracking are lax and in some cases untraceable. His campaign is getting repeat contributions far exceeding the legal limits from the same credit cards, using different names each time. The fraud is amazing, read on…

I am not saying that Barack Obama is like Adolf Hitler. I am saying that the campaign tactics being employed are like those Hitler employed over the youth of Germany in the 1930’s.
The usage of fear, emotion, propaganda, and religious symbolism is all too similar.
Of course there could be another reason for the blind devotion of his followers.

It can’t be true.  I don’t beleive it. Why are people saying that the major television networks and newpapers are biased.  You’d never now by reading and watching them…    Then again, when it comes to this presidential election, this has to be the most bias I’ve ever seen in my life. And I grew up on New York City media! Don’t you wish there was an accurate way to tell if the reporting your getting is true?

The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling. And over the last few months I’ve found myself slowly moving from shaking my head at the obvious one-sided reporting, to actually shouting at the screen of my television and my laptop computer.

But worst of all, for the last couple weeks, I’ve begun — for the first time in my adult life — to be embarrassed to admit what I do for a living. A few days ago, when asked by a new acquaintance what I did for a living, I replied that I was “a writer,” because I couldn’t bring myself to admit to a stranger that I’m a journalist.

This article is quite the eye opener, it’s worth the read. Tell me what you think, are they biased?
